Shopify Plus

Shopify Plus is Shopify’s enterprise-tier plan built for high-volume merchants. It starts at $2,300 per month and gives you dedicated support, advanced customization of the checkout experience, higher API limits, and tools designed for stores processing millions in annual revenue.

Everything available on lower Shopify plans is included. Plus adds what large or fast-growing brands need on top: automation at scale, multi-store management, and the ability to handle massive traffic spikes without breaking.

Why It Matters

Standard Shopify plans have limits that most stores never hit. But when a brand starts processing thousands of orders per day, runs flash sales that spike traffic 10x in minutes, or needs to manage separate storefronts for different countries, those limits become real constraints.

Shopify Plus exists for the moment when your store’s growth outpaces what a $399/month plan can handle.

The checkout is the biggest difference. On standard plans, you cannot modify the checkout experience beyond basic branding. On Plus, you get checkout extensions and Shopify Functions that let you add custom logic: personalized upsells, loyalty point redemption, custom shipping rules, and branded post-purchase flows.

What You Get With Shopify Plus

Checkout customization. Standard plans lock the checkout. Plus opens it up. You can add custom fields, build post-purchase upsell pages, and modify how discounts and shipping options appear. For brands where checkout conversion is the difference between a good quarter and a great one, this matters.

Shopify Flow for automation. Shopify Flow is available on all plans now, but Plus merchants get expanded capabilities. Automate fraud flagging, customer tagging based on spend thresholds, inventory alerts, and reorder triggers. Stores running thousands of orders daily cannot manage these tasks manually.

Unlimited staff accounts. Standard plans cap staff at 2 to 15 depending on tier. Plus gives you unlimited accounts with granular permissions, which is essential for teams with dedicated roles across marketing, operations, fulfillment, and customer service.

Multi-store management. Plus includes up to 9 expansion stores at no additional cost. Run separate storefronts for different countries, brands, or B2B wholesale, all managed from a single organization admin.

Higher API limits. If your store relies on custom apps, integrations, or headless architecture, Plus doubles your API call limits. This is often the technical reason developers push for a Plus upgrade before anything else.

Dedicated support. Every Plus merchant gets a Merchant Success Manager, priority support, and access to the Plus Academy for training.

Real Example

A fitness apparel brand on the Advanced plan at $399/month hits $3 million in annual revenue. During a Black Friday flash sale, their site slows under traffic and checkout customization is limited to changing colors and adding a logo. They lose an estimated $40,000 in sales from cart abandonment during the four-hour event.

After upgrading to Plus, they build a custom checkout that shows a post-purchase upsell for matching accessories, add a progress bar showing how close the customer is to free shipping, and integrate their loyalty program directly into the checkout flow. Next Black Friday, their site handles 5x the traffic without issues. The post-purchase upsell alone adds $120,000 in revenue over the holiday weekend.

Shopify Plus vs. Advanced: When to Upgrade

Upgrade when any of these apply:

  • You need checkout customization beyond basic branding
  • Your team has more than 15 people needing admin access
  • You are managing multiple storefronts or international expansion
  • You hit API rate limits regularly
  • Annual revenue exceeds $1-2 million and the ROI from checkout optimization would cover the cost

Most merchants know they need Plus before they get there. If checkout limitations or API caps are actively costing you sales, the math usually works out clearly.
